About Lincoln and the 33rd Council District: Lincoln represents the 33rd Council District, which stretches from Greenpoint down to Brooklyn Heights along the Brooklyn waterfront.
Lincoln entered office in January 2022 with the goal of being the district’s 24/7 problem solver. Our office offers robust constituent services, spearheads organizing campaigns to proactively engage constituents on the issues that matter most, and leads on a variety of policy and legislative issues. Lincoln is dedicated to pushing forward-thinking policy on responding to climate change; creating truly affordable housing; bike infrastructure; and building non-police emergency response capacity.
District Director
Job Description:
The District Director is responsible for managing all district operations, including overseeing the constituent services, community advocacy, and organizing & outreach work of the office. They will be responsible for ensuring that the office is deeply present in the community and that all community and constituent issues are responded to expeditiously and effectively. They will work closely with and oversee the office’s Community Advocates to develop relationships with community stakeholders, understand and solve community issues, and support initiatives that reflect the Council Member’s values and priorities. The District Director may also be responsible for the office’s land use portfolio. They will be a part of the senior leadership team in the office and will have the opportunity to drive a variety of key district initiatives.
Some evening and weekend work is required for this position.
Tasks Include:
Oversee and support the work of the Community Advocates
Ensure that the office is focused on serving the top needs of our constituents and prioritizing initiatives that advance our goals
Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community organizations, leaders, and constituents
Communicate issues and priorities effectively to the Chief of Staff and Council Member
Ensure all community and constituent issues are tracked and satisfactorily resolved
Manage the preparation, planning process, and staffing plans for community events and local organizational meetings, such as town halls, Community Board meetings, and service events. Represent the office and staff the Council Member at events as needed.
Address complex constituent and community problems and navigate government bureaucracy to offer real time solutions for constituents
Draft correspondence, briefings, talking points, presentations, and other materials as needed to further communication with constituents
Contribute to a positive and collegial work environment in the District Office
May include - managing all facets of land use applications, driving in district planning and land use priorities, and; working with Council Land Use team to analyze proposals
Qualifications:
4+ years of experience in government or at advocacy organizations doing community organizing, case management, or direct constituent services. New York City government experience is strongly preferred.
Persistent, organized, creative problem solver adept at navigating government bureaucracy to realize helpful outcomes for constituents.
Ability to work effectively with and manage a team, and provide support and guidance to staff.
Experience simultaneously managing multiple projects and competing priorities in an effective way.
Strong organizational skills and ability to develop systems and processes for tracking priorities.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to quickly distill and communicate key issues.
Agile, deadline-oriented, works well under pressure.

Salary Range: $80,000- $90,000, commensurate with experience
Additional Information:
New York City residency required within 90 days of appointment. This position will be primarily in-person at our District Office, 410 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn.
